Privacy Policy

The short version

Your audio recordings stay on your device. Your transcripts stay on your device by default. Auris is on-device by default. Transcription, summarization, action-item extraction, and follow-up email drafting all happen locally on your phone via on-device AI models. We do not collect, sell, share, or fingerprint your meeting content.

Two exceptions, both opt-in:

• Your subscription status, processed by Apple or Google and relayed through RevenueCat strictly so the app knows whether you have Pro features unlocked.
• Cloud Intelligence — an optional Pro feature that sends the meeting transcript text (never your audio) to OpenAI's GPT-4 API for a sharper summary. Off by default; explicit one-time in-app confirmation required. See the dedicated section below.

What we collect — and don't collect

Client names, contacts, notes	No	The client list, business cards you scan, and any notes you add are stored locally. We don't sync them to a cloud.
Calendar data	No	If you grant calendar permission, Auris reads your upcoming events only to surface pre-meeting context. The data never leaves your device.
Photos	No	Photo library access is requested only when you choose to import an existing business card image. The image is processed on-device and not retained.
Location	No	Auris never requests or accesses your location.
Usage analytics	No	No event tracking is enabled in v1.0. No third-party analytics SDK is installed.
Crash diagnostics	Yes (scrubbed)	If Auris crashes, a report is sent to Sentry so we can fix the bug. Reports contain stack trace, app version, OS version, and device model. An explicit forbidden-keys scrub strips any meeting content, transcript, client name, audio path, or financial value before the report leaves the device. Retained by Sentry for 30 days, then auto-deleted.
Advertising identifiers	No	Auris shows no ads and does not request the Apple IDFA or Google AAID.
Anonymous subscription identifier	Yes	RevenueCat receives a random anonymous ID per install and your subscription tier (monthly / annual / none) so the app can unlock Pro features. Never linked to your name, email, or any personal data.
Purchase receipt	Yes	Apple App Store and Google Play receive payment from you and send a receipt to RevenueCat. We receive only the entitlement status. We never see your payment method, billing address, or other financial details.

On-device AI

Auris uses two on-device AI models:

• Whisper (OpenAI's open-source speech recognition model) for transcription. Runs locally via the whisper.rn library on your phone's CPU/GPU. Audio is processed in memory and never transmitted, in any mode.
• Llama (Meta's open-source language model) for summarization, action item extraction, and follow-up email generation. Runs locally via the llama.rn library. The model file is downloaded once on first launch and stored in your app's sandbox.

In the default on-device mode, neither model communicates with a server during inference and your meeting content never leaves your device — you can verify this with any network monitoring tool. If you opt in to Cloud Intelligence (Pro tier, off by default), the meeting transcript text is sent to OpenAI's GPT-4 API for that one operation; audio is never sent in any mode. See the Cloud Intelligence section below for the full flow.

Cloud Intelligence (Pro tier, opt-in only)

Pro subscribers can optionally enable Cloud Intelligence, which sends the meeting transcript text — never your audio — to OpenAI's GPT-4 API via our backend proxy (auris-api on Vercel) to generate a sharper summary. Cloud Intelligence is:

• Off by default. You must explicitly turn it on in Settings.
• Confirmed by a one-time in-app dialog the first time you enable it, identifying OpenAI as the recipient.
• Per-meeting visible. Every meeting card and detail header shows an ON-DEVICE / CLOUD badge.
• Reversible at any time. Switch it off and Auris falls back to on-device only.
• Capped at 10 cloud-summarized meetings per calendar month.

What OpenAI receives: Only the meeting transcript text, sent over HTTPS to OpenAI's GPT-4 API, when you have Cloud Intelligence enabled.

How OpenAI processes it: Under OpenAI's zero-retention API policy. They do not store, log, or train on your transcripts.

What we keep: No transcripts, summaries, audio, or PII are stored on our servers. The auris-api proxy only authenticates the request against your RevenueCat Pro entitlement and forwards to OpenAI.

Third-party services

Auris uses three third-party services:

• RevenueCat — subscription receipts and entitlement validation. Receives only the anonymous identifier and subscription tier. Privacy policy: revenuecat.com/privacy.
• Sentry — crash and diagnostic reporting. Receives only scrubbed crash reports as described in the table above. No meeting content, client data, or audio ever reaches Sentry. Privacy policy: sentry.io/privacy.
• OpenAI — GPT-4 summarization, only when you opt in to Cloud Intelligence (Pro tier, off by default). Receives only the meeting transcript text under OpenAI's zero-retention API policy. Auris does not use any analytics SDKs, ad networks, A/B testing tools, or marketing attribution SDKs.

Your rights

• Export everything. Settings → Export gives you a complete copy of your meeting summaries, action items, and client list in a portable format. The export never touches our servers.
• Delete everything. Settings → Privacy → "Wipe Auris" removes every meeting, transcript, action item, and client from your device. Because there is no server-side copy, there is nothing else to delete.
• Cancel your subscription. Through your App Store or Google Play subscription settings, at any time, without contacting us. The app continues to function in free mode after cancellation.

Recording laws

Recording conversations is regulated differently around the world. Some jurisdictions require all parties to consent to being recorded; others require only one party. You are responsible for complying with the recording laws in your jurisdiction and for obtaining any required consent from meeting participants. Auris provides the tools; you control how and when to use them.

Children

Auris is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

If we ever add a feature that changes what data is collected — for example, turning on analytics or expanding cloud-based processing — we will update this page, update the App Store and Google Play privacy disclosures, and update the in-app Privacy screen in the same release. The most recent revision date is shown at the top of this page.
